Extra help with waste

FAQ scenarios:

  • If your resident (through disability or frailty) is unable to put their bins out for collection, ask the district council where they live for an assisted collection service. This means their bins will be collected from where they are stored, emptied, and then returned.

  • If your resident has a medical condition where they will generate clinical waste (needles, sanitary items etc) look at their council’s clinical waste collection support information on their website

  • Always check if bulky items can be reused, as a charity may be able to collect (for free) and sell them on. This website helps you find them: The Norfolk Reuse Network | Home

  • Bulky waste collection services tend to be cheaper (per item) if you arrange a multiple collection in one go

  • Your resident may be able to get a larger bin (particularly for recycling) from their district council

Assisted bin collection

Only available when:

  • there are no able-bodied persons living in the property with you
    and

  • you are registered disabled or

  • you are elderly or infirm or

  • you have a physical medical condition meaning you are unable to move your bins or

  • you struggle to remember your bin collection day due to mental illness.

How does the assisted collection work?
The crew will come onto your property on collection days, collect your bins from your front garden, empty your bins and return the bin to your front garden so you won’t need to put your bins out. If you do not have a front garden, please contact them so they can agree a suitable collection point.  Assisted bin collections – Broadland and South Norfolk (southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk)

Additional bins

They can provide extra capacity for those households who need it.  Additional bins – Broadland and South Norfolk (southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk)

Rubbish

A 240-litre rubbish bin should provide enough capacity for the two weeks between collections. You must meet certain criteria to qualify for this additional capacity. They do not take excess waste.

Recycling

They will provide a larger recycling bin free of charge as they are keen to encourage recycling as much as possible; please remember the recycling must be clean, dry and not bagged.  Find your local recycling centre
